Can I get a visa on arrival for Indonesia?

I’m flying into Jakarta next month and heard you can get a visa on arrival for Indonesia. Is this still available? How much does it cost and how long does it allow me to stay?

Yeah, it’s still a thing, but be aware of major queues if you’re flying through Jakarta during peak times. If I were you, I’d apply for the eVOA online beforehand, which is so much faster/easier than getting it on arrival.

From what I’ve experienced:

  • It’s 500,000 rupiah on arrival and can be paid upon arrival with debit/credit card (if you get into trouble with your card, there’s also a cash machine, but no guarantee it works so make sure to check if they accept your card online)

  • It’s valid for a stay of 30 days initially, but you can extend it while there for 30 extra days (not sure how but lots of people do this)

How it works when you land:

  1. After getting off the plane, look for the “Visa on Arrival” counter before immigration
  2. Present your passport and payment card/cash at the VOA counter
  3. Depending on how busy it is, you might have to wait in another line to get the actual sticker or visa stamp

Also, make sure to fill out customs and health declaration online, and keep the QR code. If you forget, you’ll still manage to enter, but with some negotiating..

Some websites offer the eVOA and customs declaration together, so you’ll get it all at once.

Oh and to add: If you’re flying to another Island like Bali, make sure to keep at least 2 hours between flights as you’ll have to get your visa in Jakarta and queue etc. before getting on your next flight!!
